Bray students hold sponsored walk for Ark Housing

National Learning Network Bray students prepare for a sponsored walk to benefit Ark Housing.

More than 30 students from the National Learning Network (NLN) Bray will walk 5 kilometers on Friday October 28th. The charity walk will begin at 11 a.m. from the center of Beechwood Close on Boghall Road before winding your way through nearby Killruddery Estate and back to the center.

NLN walk coordinator Oonagh Hodkinson said: “This is a fantastic initiative, which was designed by the students themselves. We are asking anyone who can help support Ark Housing by sponsoring students.

There will also be a raffle on the day, which will go to the homeless charity which, coincidentally, is also based in Bray. The NLN offers specialist training and support to people who, for various reasons, may have difficulty finding a job. It is the largest non-governmental education and training organization in the country.

The NLN enables people to embark on positive learning journeys through inclusion in training, continuing education, higher education and working life.

Claire Harris, from Ark Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the National Learning Network Bray on this. We understand that things are very difficult for people at the moment with the cost of living crisis, so fundraisers like this are very important to us.”

Ark Housing Association was formed in 2005 in response to the needs of people attending the WH Five Loaves reception centre.

With the help of grants, fundraisers and donations, Ark Housing buys and converts properties to provide housing for homeless people who would benefit from support that would help them transition from homelessness to independent living.

In addition to providing housing and support for residents, Ark Housing helps people find private housing and resolve any issues with funding applications.
