“So excited my heart is racing,” said fan Janel Franklin. “So hopefully we win, I love the Sox.”
Hundreds of Sox fans showed up at the guaranteed rate field Saturday to stock up on all kinds of gear.
“A seat pad, lots of shirts, a face mask. Lots of everything,” Franklin said, showing off her loot.
“I call it Christmas Day,” said fan Joe Bosch. “I pack a bag to give lots of small stuff to the kids in the neighborhood, and even save some stuff for the big kids in the house.”
Bosch and his wife have never missed this charity event organized by the Sox. It’s a win-win for the fans, the team, and the hundreds of Chicago-based organizations who receive all the benefits of this event.
“I love the event,” Franklin said. “I come out every year for the cause, it’s a great cause.”
The Sox typically bring in $50,000 to $75,000 each year from the event, and he returned in person this year after being run online last year.
“Oh, super excited especially after they just picked up the other day, and then had that yard sale,” said fan Bill Gordon. “I haven’t been here in over a year and a half since COVID so I’m glad it’s back.”
The White Sox are in good shape heading into the playoffs, and fans have a special feeling about this team.
“Well, every year is so special for the Sox,” Bosch said. “But since 2005, this is probably the most excited I’ve been, and I can’t wait for the next few weeks to unfold.”
