Editors elect new officers for three more years – Global News Network
Over the weekend, members of the Publishers Association of Liberia (PAL) went to the polls to elect their new leadership who will run the affairs of the organization for a period of three years.
The poll which took place this weekend at the headquarters of the Liberia Press Union (PUL) was observed by representatives of the National Election Commission (NEC), the Election Observation Network of Liberia (LEON) and the president of the Liberia Press Union. (PUL), Charles Coffey, Jr.
All the candidates, including the president, vice-president, general secretary and financial secretary, were elected by blank ballot.
The Managing Director of the New Dawn Newspaper, Mr. Othello Garblah won the presidency, while Mr. Sam O. Dean; The publisher of the independent newspaper was elected vice-chairman. Other elected officials on ‘Whit Ballots’ included the publisher of the Liberian Express, James G. Kaisolu as general secretary and Abraham Donzo won the post of financial secretary.
Speaking on the program which was also attended by the editor of one of the country’s oldest newspapers, the News, Professor Wilson K. Tarpeh, chairman of the PAL electoral committee, Alphonso Toweh urged the winners adhere to the constitution of the organization, and live up to the expectations of their constituents.
According to PAL elected officials, their inauguration should take place in mid-January 2022.
PAL’s electoral committee included editor of the New Republic newspaper, Alphonson Toweh as chairman, Mohammad Kenneh, editor of Heritage newspaper as co-chairman, and Joel Cholo Brooks of GNN-Liberia newspaper as secretary.
