Expert claims exciting Tottenham player should join Sunderland on loan
Tottenham talent Troy Parrott is set to join Sunderland on loan during the current transfer window, according to expert Stephen Elliott.
The former Black Cats man told TEN that a move to his former club would be the ideal next step in the young Irish striker’s development.
Parrott spent last season on loan at Milton Keynes Dons as they missed out on promotion from League One in the play-offs.
It was Sunderland who got up at Wembley and a move to the second tier would be a quality upgrade next season for Parrott.
Parrott set to join Sunderland
He said: “He’s had this full season in Ligue 1 and I think he’s now a better player than Ligue 1. I know people say he hasn’t scored a lot of goals in Ligue 1. , but the way he plays, he was always involved in goals and he started to score a few more towards the end of the season – really good goals.
“But for him to keep improving he has to step up a level. I think somewhere like Sunderland – they need two strikers – they have Ross Stewart there at the moment but he would need a little help in there.
“I think if Troy Parrott came to Sunderland I think he would be willing to play for a club like that with the big crowds, the atmosphere at the games and that feeling of doing well there and thriving there- He looks like the type of player who likes to play on big occasions and I think that could be a really good move.
“He is now learning how to grab free kicks, get his body in positions where he takes a hit off a defender, be smart and save time for his team. He has to play in every game (in Ireland) for me. He really, really excites me. He reminds me a bit of a street footballer and over time he will make better decisions on his last pass; that will come.
It has been reported that Parrott could still be loaned out again this summer, with plenty of second-tier interest in signing him.
He’s keen to make his mark at Spurs and impress Antonio Conte, but that may have to wait until the 2023/24 campaign.
Sunderland are back in the big time and when they play well and the fans are up there, it’s a great atmosphere up there, an atmosphere that a player like Parrott could thrive on.
