FiveCAP Golf Charity Event Raises Over $ 7,000 to Heat Homes and Provide Books for Children

MANISTEE – Several teams have come to the Manistee National Golf & Resort course to support FiveCAP’s 17th Annual Golf Fundraising Event.

The event included an 18-hole race followed by a live auction and raffles, with a variety of items donated by businesses across the FiveCAP service area to support Walk / Golf for the Heat and L early literacy.

Walk / Golf for Warmth funds are used to help families and seniors in the FiveCAP service area of Manistee, Mason, Lake and Newaygo counties who fear their heat will be turned off during the cold winter months.

Funds raised at this year’s event were shared with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program that FiveCAP is sponsoring to provide a book each month to enrolled children aged 0-5 through the age of 5. Every $ 25 raised provides books for a year to a child in our community. To put that in perspective for the funds raised at this event – children are enrolled in the program at different ages 0-5, but that would mean books for twenty-eight (28) children for 5 years, or a year of books for one hundred and forty (140) children.

Watson Country, who initiated this event 17 years ago, was the sponsor of the Hole-in-One Prize. Each participant had the opportunity to win a new Jeep Compass at hole 9 but there was no taker. Dustin Simmons, who was part of the Custom Sheet Metal team, won the pin’s closest award.

Little River Casino Resort sponsored the prize for an overnight and dinner package for each member of the winning team. Jim Ogilvie, Mark Niesen, Zack Bialik and Alex Bialik took first place with a score of 56. Second prize went to the Little River Casino team consisting of Chad Eckhardt, Rochelle Sam, Jonnie Sam and Brian Rayburn who scored 61. Each team member won an 18-hole round of golf at Manistee National Golf & Resort.

Thanks to Rochelle Sam for being our auctioneer, and to the DTE Energy Foundation for donating a stainless steel grill for the grand prize raffle. Many thanks to the tee and publicity sponsors: Chris & Amy Loftis, Custom Sheet Metal & Heating, Big “K” Construction, Lake Osceola State Bank, Brooks Security & Electronics, Brooks Heating & Air Conditioning, Sanders Sarnowski LLC (Magee Insurance), Haglund’s Floor Covering, Inc., Midway Party Store, Freedom Auto Repair, Blarney Castle Oil Co., Thomas & April Thurston, Hardman Construction Inc., Merskin & Merskin Tax & Accounting, Curt VanderWall for State Senator and Promaster Carpet Cleaning.
