Loan shark among three detained for kidnapping businessman in Chennai
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu police have arrested three people, including a Chennai-based financier, for allegedly kidnapping a businessman who failed to repay a Rs 1 crore loan taken from the financier.
The arrested defendants were identified as Arockia Raj, the financier, Afrose and Aravind his accomplices.
Saravanan, the property businessman, was kidnapped on Saturday night by a gang believed to be led by local financier Arockia Raj.
Saravanan had taken Rs 1 crore from Arockia Raj a few months ago but was unable to return the money.
Police say Saravanan received a call from Arockia Raj on Saturday about a new deal. The financier and a few of his henchmen reached Saravanan’s house, took the keys to two of his luxury cars, a watch and some gold jewelry. Later they put Saravanan in a car and drove away.
However, Saravanan’s family filed a complaint with the police, who immediately intervened.
The police team from T. Nagar Police Station searched the CCTV cameras on the road and intercepted the car on ECR. A special police team rescued Saravanan and recovered his two luxury cars.
Police told IANS a manhunt was underway for nine other people involved in the kidnapping.
