To date, the sponsored annual walk along the Kennet & Avon Canal has raised over £ 25,000 and is expected to increase further in the coming weeks.

Funds raised help the Forever Friends charity invest in vital medical equipment and life-changing services at the hospital.

Much-needed money is used to transform the lives of thousands of patients and families treated each year, as well as staff.

Half of the walkers completed the 26.2 mile marathon challenge from Bishops Cannings, near Devizes.

The other half took 10 miles from Bradford on Avon. Both distances crossed the finish line at the Holburne Museum in Bath.

Laura Snell, Events and Community Manager, The Forever Friends Appeal, said: “Kudos to all of our amazing walkers who came out to support RUH Bath.

“You’ve really made every step count for your local hospital and the many local people who need their services every day.

“Whether you have walked in memory of a loved one, to support someone in treatment, as a patient or a staff member yourself, or to get active and support a good cause, you are truly amazing. and we can never thank you enough for all of your hard work, training and fundraising.

“The past year and a half has been the most difficult time in history for our NHS and has underlined how important it is to the nation and our local community.

“We are therefore very proud to have been able to safely organize this annual event (which has not been able to take place since May 2019!)

“The safety of our supporters, patients and the local community remains our number one priority and therefore the Walk of Life has been adapted this year due to COVID-19, to be delivered in a socially distanced and safe manner for all.

“Many walkers also take part in the virtual Walk of Life and run a marathon their own way, throughout the month of September. Keep on going!

“We would also like to thank our brilliant volunteers who organized the course and encouraged everyone, everyone who supported or donated, and our generous event sponsors, MJ Church and Savills.”

Next year’s Walk of Life event will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2022 and seats will open soon.
