Preston interested in signing Bersant Celina after loan from Ipswich Town

Preston are interested in signing Bersant Celina after impressing on loan at Ipswich Town in League One last season.

North End faces something of a rebuild this summer with an exodus of 20 players from the cards.

13 players were released earlier this week as Preston announced their shortlist.

Add four players on loan leaving the club and three players on transfer and you see the scale of Preston’s task.

Ryan Lowe needs to be supported by new recruits and it looks like he wants to bring Celina to Deepdale.

Preston is interested in signing Bersant Celina

TWTD Reports claim Preston have joined the race to sign Dijon playmaker Celina.

Celina is back at Dijon this summer after being loaned out to Ipswich Town in Ligue 1 last season.

The French side paid £3m to sign Celina of Swansea City in 2020.

Celina, 25, has scored six goals and six assists for Ipswich during his loan spell.

The former Manchester City talent is a Kosovo international and has one goal in 29 caps for his country.

Ipswich want to keep Celina, so Preston will face competition for her signature, and TWTD claim other clubs could also join the race.

You can hardly blame Ipswich for wanting to keep Celina after this superb goalscorer of the season.

Does Preston need Celina?

The view is that Preston doesn’t need another midfielder.

Ben Whiteman, Ryan Ledson, Alan Browne, Ali McCann and Daniel Johnson are all vying for places in midfield.

There are also high hopes for youngsters like Noah Mawene and Aaron Bennett.

Still, we think Preston needs another playmaker. There’s so much attacking focus on Johnson, as he’s relied on for ball carrying and creativity in the final third.

Celina is the kind of player who could bring more craftiness to the Preston side and we’ve seen him bag 10 goals and 11 assists in 79 outings for Swansea City.

An important note here is that Preston’s assistant Mike Marsh actually coached Celina at Swansea during the 2019-20 season.

This connection could be key to Preston’s interest and could just give Celina a reason to choose North End.
