Smoke Break: Josh Allen’s Celebrity Status
During the last Smoke Break, Z-Bot was joined by The Rev to discuss some developments around the NFL, but mainly to talk about Josh Allen’s now genuine celebrity status. The Buffalo Bills quarterback has transcended the sport, and this is the first time since OJ Simpson that it has actually meant anything. Let’s go.
The Rise of Josh Allen (29:30)
Josh Allen is officially a big celebrity; it has become a fact this off-season. From “The Match” to his TV commercials, he’s everywhere and he represents Buffalo extremely well. His influence on this team, both on and off the pitch, cannot be overstated.
From the Buffalo Bills’ 15 Sunday games at 1 p.m. in Allen’s rookie season to our current status as league darlings: Josh puts us on the map. At the end of this historic 2021/22 post-season streak, his play elevated him to (arguably) the best quarterback in the NFL. Now that we’re the main Super Bowl favorites in 2023, it stands to reason that Allen gets the credit he deserves.
What happens afterwards? He’s already been chased by paparazzi at the Miami Grand Prix, played in a nationally televised golf tournament and seems to be popping up everywhere this offseason. But, above all, it appears in OTAs. Despite his massive status and big contract, he participated in all but one of the team’s volunteer activities. This one exception was for this charity golf tournament. Team player and new cultural icon, Josh Allen represents us very well.
They also discussed Sean McDermott’s culture shift (1:08:55), the retirement of Ryan Fitzpatrick (1:27:00) and the latest developments by Deshaun Watson (1:43:55). For all this and more, check out the latest Smoke Break on the Buffalo Fanatics YouTube channel.
