INTERNATIONAL. Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) is calling for support for its networking and fundraising event in Cannes, with a focus on The Hope Foundation.

A meeting will take place at the Palais des Festivals on October 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. As reported, WiTR named The Hope Foundation as its chosen charity for 2022 earlier this year.

Since 1999, The Hope Foundation is committed to ensuring the protection of children living on the streets or in the slums of Kolkata (India). The foundation recognizes that children are denied basic human rights to survival, protection, development and participation as advocated by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Whenever possible, Hope reunites children with their families, but where family environments do not exist or still pose a threat, young people are placed in Hope protective homes. The foundation’s five homes offer an integrative approach to all aspects of childcare covering education, nutrition, health, sports and recreation.

The Hope Foundation was suggested as this year’s charity by WiTR member Aisling Walsh of Butlers Chocolates.

The WiTR project aims to raise at least €15,000 to replace a bus used to transport women and children to Hope’s five homes, which are home to 100 children.

It will allow women from the foundation’s mother-child unit to travel to vocational training centers, take children to school and to sports clubs and parks for training, competitions and activities. extracurriculars.

WiTR noted that a travel retail company has already pledged a substantial donation. However, the group hopes to secure other corporate sponsorships in addition to the money raised at the charity event.

“We are extremely grateful to them for helping to put the bus on the road and are asking the industry to help us by sponsoring the cost of the various parts of the bus to offset the balance,” a WiTR spokeswoman said. “We can all work together to make this happen; every donation makes a difference.

WiTR has highlighted the sums needed to boost the fundraising effort: Cap €500; Bumper €900; Front lights €500; Backlight €500; Motor €5,000; Five Wheels €250 per wheel; Five tires €200 per tire; 15 seats €200 per seat.

WiTR welcomes all supporters (male and female) to its event. To donate in advance, please contact WiTR Vice President Gerry Munday at [email protected] or Aisling Walsh at Butlers Chocolates [email protected]
