Windermere spa therapists undergo training to help cancer patients

A DEDICATED group of Windermere spa therapists have been trained to assist in the treatment of cancer patients.

Katie Read, Hannah Ford and Beckie Gibson of Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa have earned an oncology massage qualification through the accredited Jennifer Young Training School. Their training includes Level 1 and Advanced Cancer Awareness, as well as holistic treatments for the face, hands, nails and feet.

Oncology massage is a certified qualification that equips spa therapists with the skills and knowledge to undertake gentle and sensitive massages to patients going through different stages of cancer.

The physical and emotional benefits are well documented, ranging from reducing pain, nausea and anxiety to improving circulation, mood and well-being.

“Katie, Hannah and Beckie are now qualified to provide oncology massages, facials, manicures and pedicures to cancer patients, which means we can offer a range of specialist recovery treatments here at Low Wood Bay “said Annabel Berry of English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues. .

“These types of treatments are currently not fully recognized as standard in our industry and have not received the attention they deserve. We want to change that and ensure that every customer who walks through our doors can be taken care of and taken care of when he goes through really difficult times in his life.

Beckie Gibson, Head Spa Therapist, said: “Participating in the oncology treatment training has been a very rewarding experience for me as a therapist. These types of treatments should be much more widely available, so I’m happy that we can now offer them. The training has also been great for our career progression and a chance for us to develop our skills.”

English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues also supports breast cancer charity Paddlers for Life, which has two dragon boats at the Low Wood Bay Watersports Center for use by patients and families to help build networks of friendship and support.
